Almost The Same
(feral rehearsals for violent acts of culture)

A figure lurks in a dark place of collapse, a theatre of dirt, an ark of humiliation.
Beneath the pelt it growls, licks, pants, bites back…

Testing the dynamic between instinct and intellect, the wild and the domesticated, nature and culture;
Almost The Same examines notions of terror, fear, violence and the beast.

The solo performer is split into two opposing aspects; a live ‘animal’ presence - caged, confined and tethered within the performance space, and a video projected double - the ‘civilised’ manipulator and predator.

What ensues is a battle of wills, a war enacted between two facets of the same woman.

Almost The Same is created and performed by Julia Bardsley with a live-mixed score by Andrew Poppy.

Julia Bardsley has worked as a theatre director, photographer, filmmaker, performer, designer and visual artist. Her last multidisciplinary project, Trans-Acts, premiered at the National Review of Live Art in Glasgow, TROUBLE Festival, Brussels and SPILL, London 2007.
